THE INSTRUMENT WAS FLOWN OVER NORTHWESTERN GREENLAND IN SEPTEMBER 2016 AND 2017. THE DEVICE ACQUIRED THE FIRST  WIDEBAND  LOW FREQUENCY BRIGHTNESS TEMPERATURE SPECTRA OVER THE ICE SHEET AND COASTAL REGION. THE RESULTS REVEAL STRONG SPATIAL AND SPECTRAL VARIATIONS THAT CORRELATE WELL WITH THE PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF THE SURFACE ENCOUNTERED ALONG THE FLIGHT PATH  WHICH STARTED OVER OCEAN  THEN ROCK NEAR THE COAST  AND THEN UP ONTO THE ABLATION  WET  PERCOLATION AND DRY SNOW ZONES OF THE INTERIOR ICE SHEET. PARTICULARLY STRONG SPECTRAL RESPONSES IN PERCOLATION AND DRY SNOW ZONES ARE OBSERVED AND PLAUSIBLY EXPLAINED BY VARYING THE DISTRIBUTION OF HORIZONTAL DENSITY LAYERS AND ISOLATED ICY BODIES IN THE UPPER PORTION OF THE FIRN. ADDITIONAL EXPERIMENTS OVER SEA ICE IN 2017 ALSO SUGGEST THE POSSIBILITY FOR USING UWBRAD TO INVESTIGATE SEA ICE GEOPHYSICAL PARAMETERS. AIRBORNE DEPLOYMENT OF THE INSTRUMENT  SUBSEQUENT IMPLEMENTATION OF ALGORITHMS TO LIMIT RADIO FREQUENCY INTERFERENCE IN UNPROTECTED BANDS  AND THE SUCCESSFUL SCIENTIFIC INTERPRETATION OF THE DATA MOTIVATES CONTINUED AIRBORNE INVESTIGATIONS. HERE WE DESCRIBE A COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE NELLO CARRARA INSTITUTE FOR APPLIED PHYSICS (IFAC)  FLORENCE ITALY  AND THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY TO CONDUCT AIRBORNE EXPERIMENTS WITH UWBRAD IN VICTORIA LAND ANTARCTICA. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE WORK IS TO INVESTIGATE INVERSION OF UWBRAD DATA TO COMPUTE INTRAGLACIAL TEMPERATURE AS WELL AS OTHER GEOPHYSICAL PARAMETERS ASSOCIATED WITH THE ICE SHEET AND SEA ICE. THE IFAC WORK HAS ALREADY BEEN APPROVED BY THE ITALIAN ANTARCTIC RESEARCH PROPOSAL WHICH COVERS THE AIRCRAFT DEPLOYMENT AS WELL AS BASE SUPPORT FOR OSU AND IFAC PARTICIPANTS. THIS PROPOSAL SEEKS FUNDING FROM NASA TO INSTALL AND CERTIFY THE INSTRUMENT ON A KENN BOREK TWIN OTTER  TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FIELD CAMPAIGN  AND TO SUPPORT DATA ANALYSIS  INTERPRETATION  AND SCIENCE ANALYSES. RESULTS FROM THIS EXPERIMENT WILL FURTHER INFORM THE ESA CRYORAD PROJECT (IFAC AND OSU ARE PARTICIPANTS) TO INVESTIGATE A SPACEBORNE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE UWBRAD
