Coinfection with HIV-1 has rendered the control of tuberculosis very difficult, and we have discovered a new method of augmenting host defense so that both M. tuberculosis which causes tuberculosis and HIV-1 which causes AIDS can be controlled using a new class of Sirtuin-based drugs.
