During the development of obesity, energy intact is greater than expenditure resulting in increased adiposity until a new steady-state balance is achieved. Current therapies to reduce weight such as diet decrease energy intake but for a variety of physiologic reasons has not proven successful. However, increasing energy expenditure is a potential viable option but current studies have primarily focused on brown and beige adipocyte activation. We have uncovered a role for a metabolic enzyme termed TIGAR that functions at the neuromuscular junction to regulate skeletal muscle contraction and heat production through the induction of increased
